Where the Rainforest Meets the Sea
Rainforests are havens and fire refuges for species like the Sooty Owl, Rufous Fantail, Long-nosed Potoroo and Lace Monitor. Their diverse structure supports plants like Wonga Vine, Jungle Grape, Lilly Pilly, Blueberry Ash, native Elderberry and Passionfruit..and ferns. They filter runoff, protecting our waterways from pollution and silt. Restoration experts and land managers will introduce several rainforest sites, with a focus on the evolution, biodiversity and health of our unique Littoral Rainforests- also known as Coastal Vine Thickets.
Why are they here? Why are they valuable? How can we keep them healthy?
Learn a bit about rainforest flora, and meet some of the community groups monitoring and restoring these significant gems around our towns and in our protected areas. Wear sturdy shoes, bring a water bottle/thermos and picnic lunch – drinks and cake provided.
