ON FOOT in the High Country – Poets Walk

Poets Walk is named after late poet John Butler, who started the walk but died before completion. In 2006, local community members brought it back to life after years of neglect. To honour John Butler, a series of cairns was created with a verse from his poem The River on each.

Join plant enthusiast Sally Doyle for a curated walk where she will discuss the planting plan that was devised to create a series of ‘rooms’, along the walk, and the lessons learnt.

The Great Alpine Basketry Group has created a series installation of sculptures made of locally sourced materials as ephemeral attractions. Members of the group will be on hand to show how to make string from locally sourced cumbungi.

This is a gentle walk of 1.5 km, with a downward slope at the beginning. It has a gravel path and is suitable for all ages and abilities. Bring water and dress warm, bring a hat and water.

This is a free walk, but numbers are limited so booking is essential.

Meet by the bridge at the end of McMillans Street, in the centre of Swifts Creek. There will be an On Foot in the High Country sign plus a high vis shirt on display.
