Metung Winter Festival

Embrace the magic of winter at the Metung Winter Festival, a vibrant community celebration set on the beautiful Metung Village Green. This year’s festival focuses on bringing people together to share incredible winter comfort food, enjoy live local music, and create unforgettable memories with family and friends.

Food lovers will be spoiled for choice with a range of local vendors serving up their favourite winter warmers, designed to satisfy and comfort. For the adults, the Bancroft Bay Distillery mobile bar will be serving boozy hot gin toddies, G&Ts, and specialty cocktails, while kids (and the young at heart) can indulge in hot chocolates with marshmallows, sausages, popcorn, and fairy floss.

A standout feature of the festival is the live wood carving by BK Carving, who will create a stunning masterpiece throughout the day. The finished sculpture will be auctioned off in the evening by Richard O’Byrne from First National King & Heath—so keep an eye on its progress and get ready to bid!

Back by popular demand, the dumpling eating competition returns for its third year, hosted by Doin’ Dumplings. With separate contests for adults and kids, everyone can register for their chance to compete. Enter on the day, come hungry, and enjoy dumplings loaded with chilli, coriander, and sauce. Winners will take home trophies, cash prizes, dumplings, crispy chilli oil – and ultimate bragging rights as Metung’s Dumpling Eating Champions.

Families will love the range of entertainment, including giant lawn games, kids’ colouring activities, and the chance to explore the Metung CFA fire truck—try on the captain’s hat, sit behind the wheel, and snap a memorable photo.

As the sun sets, the festival will come alive with a magical lakeside lantern parade, winding its way to the Metung Wharf overlooking Bancroft Bay. Bring your own handmade lantern or purchase one crafted by local primary school children and be part of this enchanting winter tradition.
