Eat or Be Eaten

Eat or Be Eaten is a body of work by Naarm/Melbourne based artist, Iona Julian-Walters that brings together new cyanotype works and her established drawing practice. Iona was curated into the FLOAT Artist residency by Lichen Kelp over the summer of 2026 and this show comes out of this time spent on Bung Yarnda/Lake Tyers, Gunaikurnai Country.

During her time on Bung Yarnda Iona spent much time observing the cycles of the lake and the species living on it and in it – watching the intimate moments of these creatures’ lives as they hunted, foraged and existed within the ecosystem of the lake.

The delicate balance of predator and prey is present in these works, as well as the fragility of places like Bung Yarnda as important ecological footholds in a steadily developing world.
